A motorcyclist died in a collision with a van early Thursday at Arctic Boulevard and International Airport Road, Anchorage police said.
Officers responded just before 2 a.m. to a report of the collision.
A woman driving a 1997 green Ford van southbound on Arctic Boulevard appeared to have run a red light at International, police wrote in an online alert. The van struck a motorcycle westbound on International. The motorcyclist had a green light, according to the statement.
Medics attempted lifesaving measures, but the motorcyclist died at the scene, police said. He will be identified following next-of-kin notification, police said.
The van driver remained at the scene and was cooperative, police said. No arrests were immediately made.
“A charging decision will be made once toxicology results have been received,” police said.
The intersection was closed for about five hours while police investigated the scene and was reopened around 7:20 a.m.
